Greetings:

Your VSB CUPE Local 15 bargaining committee reconvened bargaining with the employer on January 6th, and we are pleased to report that we have made significant gains since adjourning for the holiday break in December.

Your committee is confident that we will achieve a final settlement by the end of this week, prior to the government-imposed deadline of January 25th for all K-12 School Districts.

The CUPE Local 15 Bylaws require that seven days’ notice be provided to the members for any possible ratification votes. As a result of this requirement, the committee made the unprecedented decision to send out the notification for a ratification meeting before a Memorandum of Agreement with the employer has been signed.

This is a highly unusual step, but one we felt was necessary at this point.

Some members may have already received notice in the mail announcing a meeting, and some of you may still have yet to receive it, but we felt it was important to notify the members to protect the timelines of the government deadline. We are very close to an agreement, and we feel positive that we will make the deadline of January 25th for an agreement to be ratified.

At the upcoming ratification meeting, members will be presented with the proposed settlement details and a question-and-answer session will be held before a vote will take place.

Please make sure that the union office has your updated home mailing address as well as your personal email address by calling 604-879-4671 or sending an email to email@cupe15.org.

Once a Memorandum of Agreement is confirmed, we will update the CUPE Local 15 website with the details.

Thank you again for your patience and support as we work towards a settlement that we feel is in the best interests of our members.

We look forward to seeing everyone at one of these very important meetings!
