Dear City et al (City of Vancouver, Park Board, RayCam, and Britannia) Members:
This afternoon, Ken Sim and the ABC Councillors voted to adopt the 2026 budget, despite concerns raised by workers, taxpayers, community members, and organizations across the city. This is deeply disappointing, especially given the strong opposition from the community.
As workers who deliver critical frontline services in neighbourhoods across Vancouver, you know firsthand that these cuts will mean fewer resources, increased workloads, lower morale, and reduced ability to deliver services to our community.
This budget may be framed as supporting “affordability,” but increased user fees shift costs and will leave residents paying more for all services.
While we did not get the outcome we hoped for, your efforts in opposing this budget are appreciated. Our fight is not over. We will continue to fight back in every way we can.
We know many of you want clear answers on what this budget will mean for you, your coworkers, and your families. Our focus over the coming weeks will be to get more detailed information and to clearly communicate what members can expect, and how we can further fight back.
Once we get more information, CUPE Local 15, 391, and 1004 will be meeting jointly with the City so that we remain a united front.
We are now pushing for timely and transparent information from the City and will continue to advocate for the best possible outcome.
Please know that our commitment to fight for members has not changed. As we navigate this tough moment, we hope members continue to support one another—solidarity is how we get through times like these.
If you have specific questions, you can also get in touch with us at email@cupe15.org.
In solidarity,
Santino Scardillo
Acting President
