Dear City et al (City of Vancouver, Park Board, RayCam, and Britannia) Members:

We know this is an unsettling time for CUPE members who work for the City of Vancouver. But we are fighting back. As we learned last week, the City’s draft 2026 budget would cut around 400 positions—hundreds of people whose work keeps this city running, including many CUPE members.

Earlier today, representatives from CUPE Locals 15, 1004, and 391 met with Mayor Ken Sim to discuss the proposed budget and its potential impact on both workers and city services.

The next step is to make our voices heard at the City of Vancouver’s public budget hearing this Wednesday, November 12, 2025 where CUPE 15, 1004, and 391 will be presenting. This hearing gives members of the public a chance to be heard before Council makes its final decision on the budget.

Friends and family who live in the City of Vancouver may send their feedback to the Mayor and Council expressing their concerns about the cuts at the link here: https://vancouver.ca/your-government/contact-council.aspx.

Public Hearing Details

We will share another update following the hearing, including any new information about what this means for CUPE members.

In solidarity,

Santino Scardillo, Acting President
