Dear Vancouver Coastal Health HSSCBA Members:

We would like to share an update regarding steward support for CBA members, and invite members to consider serving as a steward.

The current Lead Steward, Bobby Burgess, has stepped back from his role, and we would like to thank Bobby for his contribution to the Local and his support for members.

Consider Serving as a Steward

As we work to ensure continued steward support for CBA members, we are currently looking for individuals who may be interested in volunteering as stewards. No previous experience is required, as training and ongoing mentoring will be provided.

The primary role of a steward is to support coworkers in workplace meetings, help answer questions about the collective agreement, and connect members with the Union when support is needed. Stewards work closely with the CUPE National Representative, who provides support and guidance in their union work. The majority of training, mentoring, and meetings all take place during work hours.

Becoming a steward is a great way to support your coworkers and help strengthen our Union. Our Union is strongest when members are informed, involved, and support one another in the workplace.

If you have any questions or would like more information about becoming a steward, please contact CUPE National Representative, Claudia Colocho at ccolocho@cupe.ca.

Accessing Support

In the meantime, if members require steward support, please continue to contact CUPE Local 15, and we will ensure that the appropriate support is provided. You can contact the Local by phone at 604-879-4671, or email at email@cupe15.org.

In solidarity,

Kevin Rose,
Administrator
