Dear City et al (City of Vancouver, Park Board, RayCam, and Britannia) Members:
We have an update on today’s meeting with the City, as well as an important new community action to share.
Update from today’s meeting with the City
Earlier today, representatives from CUPE Locals 15, 1004, and 391 met with the City Manager for another update on the draft 2026 budget.
The City confirmed that Council is still expected to vote on the budget on November 25th , and that some amendments may be brought forward for debate. City staff reiterated that the largest potential impact would fall in CUPE Local 15’s jurisdiction, though the exact number of affected positions is still unknown. The City also indicated that if the budget is approved, they will initiate formal discussions with the unions regarding labour impacts.
All three locals have agreed to take part in these discussions together, so that we remain a united front and ensure members’ interests are strongly represented.
We know members want and deserve greater clarity about what this budget could mean. We have made it clear to the City that workers cannot be left in prolonged uncertainty, and we will continue pushing for timely, transparent information as this process continues.
VDLC launches “No Means No” open letter
Today, the Vancouver & District Labour Council is launching a city-wide open letter calling on Mayor Ken Sim and Council to withdraw the “zero means zero” budget and bring forward a responsible alternative that protects public services and the people who deliver them.
This reflects what we have been hearing throughout the community: residents, workers, small businesses, and community groups do not support cuts to services or job losses.
We encourage CUPE members—and your friends, family, and neighbours—to read and sign the letter.
Sign the open letter here: vdlc.ca/campaigns/vancouver-deserves-better-no-means-no
Every signature adds to the growing call for Council to take a different approach.
We are committed to keeping you informed as this process unfolds. If you have questions please reach out to email@cupe15.org.
We will keep fighting back.
In solidarity,
Santino Scardillo
Acting President
