When may I apply for Employment Insurance(EI) for the Summer break?
You may apply after your last working day. You do not need to wait for the employer to upload your Record of Employment in order to start your application. The instructions are attached for your information.
When is my final pay for the school year paid?
If you worked or took paid time off on Monday-Wednesday (June 28-30, 2021) then your pay date is July 16th for these hours worked. You do not need to wait to apply for EI. You do not need to report these earnings as they will be included in your Record of Employment.
When will I receive my vacation balance payout?
If you have any vacation balance on your July 2, 2021 pay advice then you will receive that payout on your July 16th pay advice along with your regular wages for June 28-30, 2021 and corresponding vacation accrual. The Record of Employment will include the vacation payout amount on your July 16th pay so you will not need to report that to Service Canada. Please note: If you elected the Vacation Deferral Option in Spring of 2021, your vacation payout will be paid on September 17, 2021.
What if I am a school closer?
Your Record of Employment will not be processed until you stop working in July. For example, If your last day of work is July 7th , then you will receive your wages and any accrued vacation paid on July 16. These wages/vacation payout are included on your Record of Employment so you will not need to report them to Service Canada.
What if I work in Summer School?
Apply for Employment Insurance after your last scheduled working day of Summer School. A Record of Employment will be processed when you receive your pay on August 13, 2021.
